Born on September 9, 1959, at Wright Patterson Airforce Base in Dayton, Ohio passed away on January 11, 2017 in Winter Garden, Florida. Barry is survived by his loving wife and soulmate Pamela and his loving and devoted daughter, Tracynda (Winter Garden, FL); his caring mother-in-law, Linda Varney (Ohio); two siblings, Bonnie Craven (Ohio) and Jay Daniels (Florida); a nephew, Robert Craven (Ohio) and many other extended family and dear friends around the world.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Colonel Nathan Sternberger and Dolly (Turner) Sternberger, brothers: Lieutenant Commander Alan Sternberger and Robert Sternberger.
Barry earned his Bachelor of Political Science degree in 1981 from The Citadel in Charleston, SC. He earned his Master's Degree in General Administration from Central Michigan and his Doctorate of Philosophy from University of Cincinnati in 2002.
Barry served in the US Navy for 10 years of active duty and 10 years US Navy Reserve service. He served on the John F. Kennedy during Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1990/1991. In 2002, Barry served for the U.S. Department of State for 15 years in various countries worldwide. He was awarded a Multinational Force and Observers Medal in 2010, the Superior Honor Award, Group Franklin Award, Extra Mile Award, Meritorious Honor Award, and countless other merit and honor awards from both the U.S. Navy and State Department. His final station was at the U.S. Embassy in Brazil before relocating to Winter Garden, FL in 2016.
Barry was an avid Disney fan and world traveler. He enjoyed safari trips, gardening and swimming in his pool. He loved his family intensely and was very dedicated to them.
