Thomas Pershing Griffin, 78, of Leesburg, Florida, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, after fighting a 12-year battle with cancer. Tommy was born February 11, 1942, in Birmingham, Alabama, and was raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he met the love of his life, Virginia. The two were married on April 24, 1964.
Tommy loved cars, mostly the classic cars from the 50’s and 60’s, during his young years of driving. Almost anything that was on two wheels or four wheels was his passion, especially the 1966 GTO.
When his son, Mark, was a teenager they both had dirt bikes and an older four-wheel drive and could be found running through mud holes and trying to see who could climb the steepest hills and trails. His daughter Michele, whom he referred to as “Beautiful Daughter” had him wrapped around her finger since day she was born.
In 1986, Tommy and family moved to Florida where continued his career as an investment banker.
Since 1994, Tommy and Virginia have been members of Calvary Baptist Church in Winter Garden, where he served as a Deacon and an usher. Having come to know the Lord later in life, he was baptized by the founding pastor of Calvary, Reynold Lemp.
Tommy served his country in the United States Air Force and remained a lifelong patriot and fervent lover of our country.
Tommy was preceded in death by his first grandchild, Bethany Michele Griffin, and his only son, Mark Thomas Griffin. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia, and his daughter Michele Damron (Jonathan) and his two grandsons, Jordan and Jared of Winter Garden. He is also survived by his sister Keron Deaton (Gary) of Indialantic and his brother John Griffin (Janet) of Orlando.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at 10:30 am in the chapel of Collison Carey Hand Funeral Home in Winter Garden, with a graveside service following at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Leesburg.
