Ruthie Rutherford Wingate completed her earthly journey and went to be with the Lord on July 5, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Born February 24, 1926, in Limestone County, Alabama, she was the last remaining child of V. M. and Lennie Sims.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by first husband, C. L. Rutherford; second husband, R. A. Wingate; son, Wesley; stepson, Ken Wingate; son-in-law, Earl Adamson; three brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by and will be greatly missed by daughter, Ruth A. Adamson; stepson, Don (Carole) Wingate; stepdaughter, Lorretta Parrish; stepdaughter-in-law, Bonny Wingate; six step-grandchildren; twelve step-great grandchildren; children-of-her heart: Shirley Barton; sister-in-law Betty Causey and family; Sherry and Bill Creech and family; the family of Alice (deceased) and Larry (deceased) Lanterman; brother-in-law James Rutherford; a large host of special nieces and nephews; loving brothers and sisters in Christ and many friends.
Coming to Winter Garden as a young bride, Ruthie came to love Winter Garden, making it her home for over 70 years. During these years, she saw many changes to the city and surrounding areas. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, taking care of her flowers and plants, playing cards, and going on special outings and adventures with the “Thirty Niners” at West Orange Church of Christ.
The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the loving care with which she was showered the last two years of her life by her caregivers from Winter Garden Senior Home Care and VITAS Hospice.
