Rosa Maria Dominguez, 86 passed away at Life Care Center of Altamonte on November 26, 2015. Rosa, better known as Nena, was born in Placeta, Cuba on June 8, 1929. She was the sixth child of seven brothers and sisters. In 1956 she, along with her sister Maria Amelia, ventured to the land of opportunity the United States. They landed in Newark, New Jersey looking for work and fortune. It was a very courageous move and very difficult not knowing the English language. Her first couple of years were very hard but with hard work and perseverance they got ahead. In 1959 she met and married Jesus Dominguez. Within a few years they opened their first business in Union City, N.J. a "bodega" called El Tigre de Oro.
In search of greater opportunity they moved to Puerto Rico in 1971. There they opened two women's clothing stores Rosy Store and Rey-Pi. She always said that those were the best years of her life. Nena and Jesus fell in love with the little Island but more so with their people. They both retired in 1985 and moved to Gainesville, FL for a year and later to Miami, until Jesus passing. She then moved to Miramar and later to Winter Garden. Her later years were spent at Life Care Center of Altamonte.
Nena will be especially remembered for her courage, her love of family and the Catholic Church. She was full of life and had a loving personality. Nena loved to sew and garden. She loved dancing and the beach, especially during the numerous family reunions with all her children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and nephews.
Nena is survived by her daughter Maria Elena, her son Jesus, four grandchildren Javier, Jorge, Eric and David along with a great-granddaughter Adriana. Nena will not only be missed by all of her family but by everyone she touched either with a gentle kiss or with a loving smile. May the Lord shower her with eternal light for forever and ever.
