Richard Arthur Doss Jr passed peacefully at Osprey Lodge on September 15 in Tavares, Fl at the age of 89.
Richard will be remembered by his daughter Darres Campbell and husband Chuck of Longwood, Fl; daughter Cathie Starn of Ocoee, (Ron) granddaughters Sheri, Leslie and Heather; grandsons Thomas and Christopher; great grandchildren Madison, Kortnee, McKinzie, Riley and Nate. He is survived by five sisters, Marcia Hardy, Martha Hopkins, Marjorie Borden, Mary Sue Darley, Marion Faye Akers, and 2 brothers, Joel Millard, and Ray Allen along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his wife of 56 years, Reba Nell Doss and 4 boys who passed at birth; his parents Richard and Lassie Doss; his sister Margaret Cooper; and brothers Johnny and William.
Born on June 30, 1929 in Lawrenceburg, TN and was the oldest of 12 children. As a young man Richard traveled to New York to build boats for the war effort and then enlisted as a Navy Seabee from 1949 to 1952. He married Reba Nell Robinson Doss in 1950. After moving to Ocoee, Florida in 1942, Richard began working for Inanan Bros. Construction company in 1964 and Williams Company where he built commercial and Government Buildings. Richard was active in local government for a time ran for City Commissioner in 1957 and again in 1972.
A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, September 29th at Collison Carey Hand Funeral Home in Winter Garden, with a reception to follow. Pastor Jeremy Culpeper will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Richard's life.
