Nancy Cordell

Nancy Lee Cordell, 78, of Venice , Florida, departed this world peacefully in Winter Garden, FL, on January 8, 2024.

Private family Graveside Service will be held 1:00pm, at Orlando Memorial Gardens, Apopka, FL where Nancy will be laid to rest next to her devoted mother, Lillian Lee Cordell.

Pastor Bryan Stamper of Quest Church will officiate. Arrangements are by Collison Carey Hand Funeral Home .

Nancy was born May 3, 1945 in Oak Park, Illinois to Lillian Lee and Leslie Glenn Cordell. Nancy’s family moved to Venice, Florida in 1963 to be close to the Warm Mineral Springs where her father and mother hoped she would benefit from its therapeutic effects.

Nancy had a profound passion for music and singing. She would spin her own 45's when she was a young girl and she joyfully sang out hymns with her mother. Nancy always invited her family and caretakers to “sing it.“

Nancy’s requests were few: play her music, rub her head, position her bed or chair, brush her hair, bring her a balloon, turn out the light. She always included, “please” with her requests.

Nancy was full of love and deeply loved by her family and all who knew her. Nancy was the embodiment of innocence with a pure, loving spirit. Pastors who knew her said, “Nancy heard the true gospel of Jesus and loved the Lord.” Even though she was confined by a wheelchair and physical limitations, her spirit was never encumbered by earthly pettiness or negativity. She always possessed a positive, loving spirit. Nancy will open her eyes in heaven and there she will see her beloved Lord, and mommy and daddy in paradise.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to our extended family of caregivers who cared for Nancy with compassion and love .

Nancy is preceded in death by her devoted parents, Leslie Glenn Cordell and Lillian Lee Cordell, and her loving niece, Cynthia Jean Cordell.

Nancy is survived by her loving brothers, Bruce Cleveland Cordell and William Thomas Cordell, loving sisters-in-law, Carol Cordell and Lili Cordell, her loving nieces, Lindsay Cordell Estrada and Hannah Lee Cordell and her loving nephew, Phillip Scott Cordell. Nancy was also blessed with great nieces and nephews, Ellison, Eason, Escher, and Rilo.

A Poem for Nancy Lee

By Bruce Cordell

When tragedy befalls a soul, what becomes a family’s goal?

A lifetime measured, years of grief in effort to enable feet.

A family torn, a mother’s guilt, a father toils, machines he built.

A prayer to heal and make amends, new Life disrupted, sadly ends.

The gods create, and we abide, but why so many cast aside.

If Angels live on earth suppose, our Nancy Lee you’re one of those.

You lived your life as best you could, expressing words when understood!

A special love for those who care, amazing interest in our hair.

A novel gift for guessing date, admonish those for being late.

So gentle, kind, and full of life. Our Nancy Lee, your star shined bright.
