Joseph Terry

Joseph Scott Terry, Sr., age 50, passed away suddenly in Orlando, Florida in July.  Joe was born in New York, spent most of his childhood in Ramstein, Germany, and became a Florida resident soon after graduating high school in the 80s. Joe attended Florida State University and was part of the football team for a time before graduating with a bachelor of science degree in finance. Over the years, Joe built quite a career in the banking industry. About ten years ago, he established the Central Florida office for the JPMorgan Chase Private Bank in Orlando. As the executive director, Joe worked tirelessly and diligently to build a great team and make the Orlando office the success it is today. During this time, Joe also served as the chairman of the market leadership team for JPMorgan Chase in Central Florida from 2015 to 2018. Joe was a Certified Financial Planner, had his securities licenses, and was part of the JPMorgan emerging leadership program. Joe was extremely conscientious, caring, and concerned for all of his clients. He always advised them in the manner he would have advised any cherished family member or friend. He was just that kind of guy.

Joe was always very involved in the community. Among other things, Joe was chairman of Leadership Orlando, Class 64, and senior sponsor for Business Resource Group, Black Organization for Leadership Development, JPMC.

Over the past 25 years, Joe also served the Central Florida community in many other ways. He served on the boards of City year Orlando, Community Coordinated Care for Children (4C), and Take Stock in Children. He was the treasurer on the board of directors for Orlando UCF Shakespeare Festival. He was a vice-chair for Leadership Alumni Board, Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce, and he was also a member of Leadership Orlando class 57.

Most recently, Joe was a member of the Florida Board of managers for Nemours Children’s Hospital, on the board of directors for United Arts of Central Florida, and an incoming member of the Board of Governors for Florida State University's Business School.

Joe also volunteered in the community and was part of many charitable events and activities. He was an incredibly devoted son who took care of his parents in the last 15 years of their lives in every way possible. He was a loving father, a faithful Christian, a fun uncle, a doting grandfather, a caring brother, a steadfast and loyal friend, a supportive mentor, a driven and dedicated businessman, hilarious and witty in every situation, a kindly stranger, a man of great integrity, and one of the most amazing husbands the world has ever known.

Over the years, in between raising sons and caring for parents, Joe and his wife Angela took in children and young adults who needed a place to stay for days, weeks, and even months. Joe was generous in caring for these young people both emotionally and financially. In his time here on earth, Joe lived as Christ commanded us all, that we should love one another. His whole life was an act of love. It came naturally to him.  He did so many wonderful, amazing, benevolent, compassionate, and generous kindnesses behind the scenes that it would take a book to describe them all.

As Joe enters into Life, he leaves behind his adoring wife and best friend, Angela, sons Vincent and Scott, a daughter-in-law Caitlin and granddaughter Grace, siblings, George, Tony, and Lori and their spouses, his uncle Robbie and aunt Carol, cousins and their spouses, many beloved nephews and nieces, some of the greatest friends a man could ever have, wonderful co-workers, and an entire community who will long feel the impact of his absence.

Joe’s family will be hosting a Celebration of Life on August 19, 2021 at The Alfond Inn, 300 E. New England Avenue, Winter Park, FL. Guests will be received beginning at 5:00PM, and speakers will begin at 5:30PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please consider making donations to Grace Place School .  This is an organization that Joe greatly supported.  Grace Place School desires to see South Florida’s youth free from sex trafficking and other destructive lifestyles.
