Jose Perez-Bernal

PerezBernal, Jose Jose Antonio Perez passed away Friday evening, June 13, 2014. He was born Jose Antonio Perez Bernal on February 17, 1917, in Havana, Cuba, to Segundo Perez Perez and the former Felisa Bernal Cabrera. As a youngster he built a crystal radio, and became fascinated with wireless communication. He learned to type, and joined the Cuban navy as a clerk typist. He did well in the navy and was appointed to the Cuban Naval Academy, where he was a cadet for several years. He was forced to leave the navy after Batistas assumption of power. He worked for several electronic or radio communications companies, including the Compaia Electrica de Cuba and the Radio Corporation of Cuba. In 1946 he met Maria Antonia Maresma Acosta, and in 1947 they married. In 1953 they moved to New York City, and later to Hialeah, where they lived from 1956 to 2000, His employers there included Gables Engineering, Communications Company, Johnson Communications and Coulter Electronics. After retiring Jose and Maria traveled in the US, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe. Jose was predeceased by his wife, Maria Antonia Perez Maresma, sister, Nieves Perez and brother, Jose Manuel Perez. He is survived by his son, Joseph L. Perez, daughterinlaw, Shirley Perez, grandsons, Robert and Richard Perez, granddaughter, Rosalyn Clark, step grandson, Mark Green, and many great grandchildren. Viewing is Wednesday, June 18th at 5:00 pm at Collison Carey Hand Funeral Home, 1148 E Plant St, Winter Garden, FL 34787. A rosary will be said at 6:00 pm. The funeral will be on Thursday, June 19th at 9:00 am at Resurrection Catholic Church, 1211 Winter Garden Vineland Rd, Winter Garden, FL 34787. Interment will be at Vista Memorial Gardens in Hialeah, Florida. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul through the church at the above address.
