Helen Louise Addington Kennedy, 88, of Ocoee, passed away Friday, September 13, 2019 at Orchard Park in the loving arms of the Singh family. She was the wife of the late James Kennedy daughter of the late Hubert and Pearl Addington. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her brother, Howard Addington.
Helen and Jim lived in Sanford, FL before retiring and moving to Shelby, NC. She was a supervisor at Sprauge Electronics in Sanford before she retired and was in quality control, checking all the capacitors that would fly in the Space Shuttles.
Helen and Jim were active in their church and every Pastor knew her for her pies. She would bake them and carry them, with Jim, to the parsonage. Next to baking pies, she loved gospel music. She sang those songs until the end of her days.
Helen fought the the terrible disease of Alzheimer's which robs one of everything, including your dignity and personality. But, through it all, she told everyone weekly, "I'll meet you by the Eastern Gate." She is in heaven now, walking on streets of gold with no pain in her perfect body.
Helen's greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. She loved cooking their favorite dishes for them.
She is survived by four children, Viki Givens of Lakeland, Sharon Ann Streit of Clermont, Jimmy Kennedy of Naples, and John Kennedy of Cantonment; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bill Addington of Tallahassee.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 18, 11 am at Found Life Church, 1001 West Plant St., Winter Garden, FL 34777. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at 2 pm in Oaklawn Cemetery, in Sanford.
