Evangelina González, conocida por la mayoría como Gela, falleció el viernes 16 de junio de 2023 en su casa en Ocoee, acompañada de su familia. Tenía 84 años. Nacida en Moca, Puerto Rico, era hija del fallecido Pascual Avilés y Anacleta Ramírez. Era miembro de la Iglesia Católica Resurrection, Winter Garden, FL y, a menudo, también asistía a la Iglesia Católica St. Francis of Assisi, Apopka, FL, donde era una devota católica practicante. A menudo se la encontraba rezando el Rosario de rodillas por sus hijos y los necesitados.
Gela estuvo casada por más de 50 años con el fallecido Antonio González y tuvo ocho hijos. Ella fue increíble y un ejemplo del cielo en la Tierra. Muchos la conocían por su comida y sus famoso arroz, alitas fritas, pastelillos, pasteles, limber, y budín, y otros por su famoso café Bustelo, que felizmente te ofrecía tan pronto llegabas entrando por la puerta, junto con un poco de queso y galletas saladas. Ella era verdaderamente nuestra Reina, nuestra roca y nuestra luz brillante. Siempre estaba orando y escuchando misa o música cristiana, y en sus primeros años, a menudo la sorprendía viendo una novela como Marimar, Simplemente María o El Derecho De Nacer. Durante estos tiempos la cocina estaba cerrada. Disfrutaba del tiempo en familia y jugaba a las cartas, al bingo o al dominó con sus hijos y nietos y era bastante competitiva.

Le sobreviven sus ocho hijos, Gloria Rodriguez, Jose Gonzalez y su esposa Aracelis, David Gonzalez y su esposa Daisy, Angel Gonzalez, Carmen Saez y su esposo Harry, Evelyn Adame y su esposo Maurilio, Yesenia DeJesus y su esposo Angel, y Nelson González y su esposa Jacqueline. Sus nietos Nathaniel y Javier Perez, Doralee Saez, Desiree y Joevanni Rodriguez, Xavier y Yalitza Adame, Ilyana Washington y su esposo Devin. Nayeli y Yaneliz DeJesus, Lori Gomez, Jonathan y Andrea Gonzalez, y Alanis, Nelson y Antonio Gonzalez. Sus bisnietos Makaiel, Olivia y Theo Perez, Nevaeh Saleem y Soleina Washington. Junto con sus padres y esposo, le precedieron en la muerte sus yernos Alfredo Pérez y José Rodríguez y su nieto Nelson Antonio González.

Evangelina Gonzalez known to most as Gela passed away Friday, June 16, 2023, at her home in Ocoee, accompanied by her family. She was 84. Born in Moca, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Pascual Aviles and Anacleta Ramirez. She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, Winter Garden, FL and often also attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Apopka, FL, where she was a devout practicing Catholic. She would often be found praying the Rosary on her knees for her children and those in need.
Gela was married for over 50 years to the late Antonio Gonzalez and had eight children. She was amazing and an example of heaven on Earth. She loved to cook and make family and friends feel welcomed and loved. Many knew her for her food and her famous rice, fried wings, "pastelillos", "pasteles", "Limbe" and "Budin", and others for her famous "cafe Bustelo", that she happily offered to you as soon as you walked in the door, along with some cheese and crackers. She was truly our Queen, our rock, and our shining light. She was always praying, and listening to mass or Christian music, and in her earlier years, you would often catch her watching a novela like Marimar, Simplemente Maria, or El Derecho De Nacer. During these times the kitchen was closed. She enjoyed family time and would play cards, Bingo, or dominoes with her kids and grandkids and was pretty competitive.
As news of her passing became known, these are some of the wonderful words you heard about her: "Gela was a beautiful, respectful, and kind-loving woman. I never in my life seen her angry." "My comadre was truly a saint and one of the best cooks I knew. I will always remember how much she helped me and the wonderful times we had on Cortez St. playing Bingo and watching Novelas." "A beautiful servant of the Lord." "My Gela was God's Good and Faithful Servant." "She was a great person, mother, grandmother, and COOK." Gela will truly be missed!
She is survived by her eight children, Gloria Rodriguez, Jose Gonzalez and his wife Aracelis, David Gonzalez and his wife Daisy, Angel Gonzalez, Carmen Saez and her husband Harry, Evelyn Adame and her husband Maurilio, Yesenia DeJesus and her husband Angel, and Nelson Gonzalez and his wife Jacqueline. Her grandchildren Nathaniel and Javier Perez, Doralee Saez, Desiree and Joevanni Rodriguez, Xavier and Yalitza Adame, Ilyana Washington and her husband Devin. Nayeli and Yaneliz DeJesus, Lori Gomez, Jonathan and Andrea Gonzalez, and Alanis, Nelson and Antonio Gonzalez. Her great grandchildren Makaiel, Olivia and Theo Perez, Nevaeh Saleem, and Soleina Washington. Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her son in laws Alfredo Perez and Jose Rodriguez and her grandson Nelson Antonio Gonzalez.
