Charles Madison Hodge (Chuck) passed away at Vitas Hospice Care Facility in Winter Garden on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 6:20 p.m. at the age of 84.

Charles is predeceased by his son, Charles Daniel Hodge (Taylor, AL), his parents, Willie Dae Hodge and Mary Hodge (Elba, AL). Also, his brother, Douglas Hodge (Elba AL).

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Lursie Mae Ross Hodge of almost 66 years. They were married in Iuka, Mississippi on December 15, 1954.

Charles is lovingly remembered by his 22 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his siblings: Patti, daughter, (Orlando); Joe, son (Winter Garden); and Judy, daughter (Mt. Juliet, TN.) His grandchildren: Joey (Winter Garden), Rusty (Oviedo), Jessica (Winter Garden), Jason (Ocoee), Dylan (Mt. Juliet, TN), and Noelle (Mt. Juliet, TN.) His great-grandchildren: Taylor, James, Ophelia, Audrey, Madison, Elana, Hannah, Corbin, Bryson, Lola, Jaiden, and Leah. Siblings: Maylene Wilkerson (Houston, TX) and Nell Moore (New Brockton, AL). He loved all members who married in, as well: Buddy, Janet, Adam, Shelby, and Kandi. He is remembered by other special members: Joyce, Betty, Roy Frank, Sue, Dennis, Greg, Brittany, Pat, Jane, Stanley, Hollis, Rita and Steve. There are many more nieces, nephews, and friends.

Charles was born in Elba, Alabama on November 23, 1935. He attended school in Damascus, AL and graduated from the Community College of the Air Force. After serving 23 years in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant, he went on to work for Martin Marietta and Lucent Technologies in Orlando, FL. Charles retired in Winter Garden, FL and spent his latter years enjoying fishing on Black Lake and partaking in the simple pleasures of being a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was particularly proud of his work with the Masonic Lodge where he earned the rank of Master Mason. Charles’s life exemplified strong family values, responsible living, disciplined work ethic and an abiding sense of patriotism.

The visitation will be held at Collison Carey Hand Funeral Home, 1148 E. Plant Street, Winter Garden, FL 34787, Ph. (407) 877-6700, at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 4, 2020. Service will follow visitation beginning at 3:00 pm (same location).

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Adnam Kahn and the staff of Health Central Hospital for the compassionate care they provided our beloved Charles during his extended illness.
