Brenda Rachel Sparks Smith left us to be with her friend, Jesus, on Saturday, February 11,2023. She was at home with her loving family.
She was preceded in death by husband Carl Smith of Astor. She is survived by her daughter Fatina Carroll, son-in-law Michael, and grandchildren Michael, Cana and grandson-in-law James. She is also survived by three brothers, James, Junior and Michael Sparks.
One of 13 children, she was born and raised on a family farm in Muses Mill, Kentucky. A determined, hard-working woman, she moved to Lexington and met the love of her life, Carl Smith. Together they owned and operated a series of "Mini-Marts," where she became a butcher and a deli master. Eventually, she started and ran the Leatherleaf Restaurant in Barberville, Florida.
After retiring, she volunteered at the Georgia Governor's Mansion, enjoyed teas and palling around with friends and family, and shared God's love with endless people.
A real "Steel Magnolia", she was a proud, confident and feisty southern woman. Sharp, witty and outspoken, she was highly protective of her family, sure of her beliefs and a true patriot of her country.
Brenda Rachel was a devout believer who always found a church in which to worship. We know she was one of His favorites. She was steadfast in her faith, and always full of love and encouragement. Her favorite biblical passage,
Psalm 23, was fitting with her fearless personality. When faced with her own valley with the shadow of death, she remained joyful, humorous and deeply thoughtful of others. She gladly accepted prayers over and for her; as she said
"I'II take some of God's will".
God willed that this formidable woman would bless us for these many years, and we thank Him for her.
